 n\n\n\nThe Henry J. Bruman Summer Chamber Music Festival is being held thi
 s summer in Lani Hall\, a 133-seat auditorium located in the Schoenberg Mu
 sic Building on the UCLA campus. All concerts are free of charge\, and no 
 reservations are required. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-se

 su\, viola\nBrent Samuel\, cello\nBrian Schuldt\, cello\n\nAmbroise Aubrun
 \nHailed as a “marvelous violinist” (France Musique) with “sensitive
  tone” (Pizzicato Magazine) and “tremendous ease\, suppleness\, and be
 auty of sound” (Nice-Matin)\, violinist Ambroise Aubrun enjoys a career 
 as a soloist\, chamber\, and orchestral musician. He has performed extensi
 vely on three continents and has conducted master classes in North America
  (Québec\, California\, Oregon\, New York\, Wisconsin\, Nevada\, Utah\, S
 outh Dakota\, Oklahoma\, Pennsylvania\, Puerto Rico)\, France\, Italy\, Au
 stralia\, and New Zealand.\n\nHis albums for Editions Hortus and Navona Re
 cords have embraced a wide range of repertoire from J.S. Bach to Eric Tang
 uy (b. 1968)\, and received praise of the highest caliber (five stars in 
 Pizzicato Magazine\, “coup de coeur” by France Musique\, and a nominat
 ion for the 2021 International Classical Music Awards). His performances a
 nd albums have been broadcast on CBS\, ABC\, WFMT Chicago\, France Musique
 \, 3MBS Melbourne (Australia)\, Klara Radio (Belgium)\, KPFK Los Angeles\,
  KNCJ Nevada\, WTUL New-Orleans\, and KUSC Los Angeles.\n\nHe has served a
 s guest concertmaster of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra\, the Las Vega
 s Philharmonic\, and the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico\, 
 and is a regular guest of the Los Angeles Philharmonic violin sections.\n\
 nAubrun graduated at age nineteen from the Paris National Superior Conserv
 atory\, and then studied at UCLA (DMA) and at the Colburn Conservatory of 
 Music (Artist Diploma). He is a winner of the Charles Oulmont Prize of the
  Fondation de France\, a laureate of the Langart Foundation in Switzerland
 \, and a recipient of the UNLV Barrick Scholar Award for outstanding achie
 vement in Creative Activities and a CSUN Faculty Achievement Award. Curren
 tly Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas\
 , Dr. Aubrun previously taught at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and
  UC Santa Barbara. He is the artistic director of the Henry J. Bruman Summ
 er Chamber Music Festival at UCLA. Dr. Aubrun plays a Matteo Goffriller vi

 www.ambroiseaubrun.com.\n\nRebecca Hang\nRebecca Hang was born in Germany 
 and began her violin studies at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz 
 with Helga Wähdel. From 1987 until 1990 she lived in Israel where she stu
 died with the concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra\, Chaim T
 aub.\n\nRebecca continued her musical education with Atar Arad and Paul Bi
 ss at Indiana University\, Bloomington\, where she received her Bachelor o
 f Music “with high distinction” and a Master of Music in violin perfor
 mance. As a member of the internationally renowned Felici String Quartet\,
  she won first prize in the 1992 Michael Kuttner Competition at IU\, the M
 TNA Competition in Indianapolis\, the Russell Award of the 1993 Coleman Co
 mpetition\, and was a prize winner of the International String Quartet Com
 petition in Osaka\, Japan\, in the same year. In June of 1993 Rebecca gave
  her New York solo debut in Lincoln Center’s Juilliard Theater performin
 g Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. As a member of the first violin section
  of the International “Guido Cantelli” Chamber Orchestra in Milan\, It
 aly\, she toured throughout Europe and the US before accepting the NEA Rur
 al Residency Grant with the Felici Piano Trio in Mammoth Lakes\, CA\, in 1
 998.\n\nRebecca dedicates much of her time to Chamber Music Unbound (CMU)
 ’s Community Music School. Through her pedagogical work she hopes to nur
 ture children’s innate musicality and lay the foundations for a lasting 
 love of great music.\n\nAriana Solotoff \nAriana Solotoff\, originally fro
 m New York\, lives and works in Los Angeles as a performer and teacher of 
 violin and viola.\n\nMs. Solotoff earned her bachelor’s degree from The 
 Juilliard School under the mentorship of Michael Tree and Masao Kawasaki\,
  and her master’s degree from the Haute École de Musique de Genève in 
 Switzerland\, under Miguel Da Silva\, where she was a recipient of the pre
 stigious Hans Wilsdorf Foundation Award.\n\nAriana has performed with many
  chamber and symphonic orchestras across the US and Europe\, including the
  Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra\, Camerata Veni
 a\, Hulencourt Symphony Orchestra\, Camerata Regală\, and Orchestra Nați
 onală Radio România. She has appeared on the Grammy Awards\, the Video G
 ame Music Awards\, and Disney Channel\, and has recorded for film soundtra
 cks and albums by artists such as Beyoncé.\n\nAs an educator\, Ariana tea
 ches privately violin\, viola\, and piano\, and is on faculty at Junior Ch
 amber Music. She has previously served on faculty at the Montecito Interna
 tional Music Festival\, the Idyllwild Arts Academy Intensive Summer Music 
 Program\, and Cremona International Music Academy in Italy. Ariana is also
  the creator and director of Popsical Music\, an initiative dedicated to m
 aking classical music accessible and inspiring for children and families.\
 n\nKevin Hsu\nKevin Hsu is a violist hailing from Saratoga\, California. M
 r. Hsu has performed throughout the continents with orchestras such as the
  Los Angeles Philharmonic\, the San Diego Symphony\, and The Orchestra San
  Antonio. He has also performed and collaborated with musicians such as Mi
 dori Goto\, Alfred Brendel\, Augustin Dumay\, members of the Artemis Quart
 et\, Glenn Dicterow\, Donald Weilerstein\, and many more. Mr. Hsu regularl
 y gives concerts throughout the United States in cities such as Los Angele
 s\, San Francisco\, New York City\, and San Antonio. His primary teachers 
 include Martha Katz\, Michael Tree\, and Brian Chen. Mr. Hsu is also an ad
 vocate for new music and has recorded and performed many works for viola a
 nd chamber ensembles. In addition to his viola performances and activities
 \, Mr. Hsu is also a professional photographer and videographer.\n\nBrent 
 Samuel\nCellist Brent Samuel joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1999 a
 nd frequently performs with the orchestra’s Chamber Music Society and in
  its Green Umbrella contemporary music series.\n\nA second-generation nati
 ve of Los Angeles\, Samuel earned his Bachelor of Music at the University 
 of Southern California and completed his Master of Music degree at the Jui
 lliard School with Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard String Quartet. He made 
 his New York debut performing Hindemith’s 1940 Cello Concerto with the J
 uilliard Orchestra. While in New York he performed with the Orpheus Chambe
 r Orchestra\, the Group for Contemporary Music\, and the International Sej
 ong Soloists. He has collaborated on stage with such artists as Midori\, E
 manuel Ax\, Gil Shaham\, Christopher Parkening\, and members of the Guarne
 ri and Juilliard String Quartets.\n\nSamuel has participated in the Aspen\
 , La Jolla\, Marlboro\, Santa Fe\, and Tanglewood Music Festivals. He has 
 been on the faculty of Pepperdine University and the American Festival for
  the Arts in Houston\, Texas.\n\nBrian Schuldt\nAs a founding member of th
 e Felici Piano Trio\, Brian Schuldt has performed hundreds of critically a
 cclaimed concerts in the U.S.\, Europe\, and South America. His chamber mu
 sic collaborations include renowned artists such as Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi\, Ed
 ward Auer\, Atar Arad\, Corey Cerovsek\, Hagai Shaham\, and Eli Eban.\n\nB
 rian was the cellist of the Arcadia String Quartet\, which won the grand p
 rize of the 1995 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition and the Indiana 
 University Kuttner Quartet Scholarship. He has appeared as soloist with th
 e Oak Ridge Symphony\, Auburn Symphony\, Owensboro Symphony\, Eastern Sier
 ra Symphony\, and the Chamber Orchestra "Cantelli" of Milan\, Italy. He ha
 s served as guest principal cellist for the Fresno Philharmonic\, Reno Cha
 mber Orchestra\, and Owensboro Symphony and has been a guest performer/ins
 tructor at Indiana University\, UNLV\, Cal State Fresno\, University of Te
 nnessee\, and Tennessee Tech.\n\nBrian studied with Toby Saks at the Unive
 rsity of Washington and continued under Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Janos Starke
 r at Indiana University\, where he earned his Bachelor of Music and Master
  of Music degrees. From 1994 to 1996\, he held the appointment of Assistan
 t Instructor of Cello at Indiana University.\n\nHe is currently Executive 
 Director of Chamber Music Unbound and conductor of the Eastern Sierra Cham
 ber Orchestra. Brian plays a cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume.\n\n\n\nAbou

  D.M.A.\, Artistic Director\n\nThe festival was founded in 1988 by Profes
 sor Henry J. Bruman (1913–2005)\, who sought to introduce new audiences 
 to chamber music at informal concerts on the UCLA campus. The festival is 
 made possible by the Henry J. Bruman Trust\, Professors Wendell E. Jeffrey
  and Bernice M. Wenzel\, by a gift in memory of Raymond E. Johnson\, and w
