y_n-g\n\nStudies of the 17th-century Hispanic comedia have been reinvigora
ted by a strong turn to both early modern and contemporary performance. Sc
holars have also explored the transnational reception of the corpus\, its
translation\, and its adaptation. This focus on performance and transnatio
nal reception has changed our understanding of the corpus\, as of individu
al plays within it\, by foregrounding questions of ideology and canonicity
\, situatedness and transformation.\n\nBuilding on the efforts of UCLA’s
Working Group on the Comedia in Translation and Performance and its Diver
sifying the Classics initiative\, as well as the Clark Library’s strong
holdings in both French and English reworkings of the comedia\, the Center
&amp\; Clark’s year-long core program “Resituating the Comedia” exp
lores new contexts for Hispanic classical theater. In addition to presenti
ng new research\, the program provides an opportunity for practitioners to
encounter new plays and for working translators to share methodologies an
d interact with practitioners.\n\nTwo conferences\, along with two roundta
bles with local scholars and practitioners\, highlight and examine the new
comedia studies\, with its emphasis on performance and transnational rece
ption.\n\nThe second conference\, “Made for the Stage: Translation and P
erformance\,” will address the following questions: How has a new genera
tion of translators taken up the challenges of performance? What are the b
est practices in translating for performance\, and the available channels
for collaboration? How do translators’ choices also impact the literary
 and performance canon?\n\n\n\nProgram Schedule\n\nFriday\, February 5\, 20
