On June 9, 2026, the Clark Library hosted Oscar Wilde: Gowns in Miniature, an event recognizing the accomplishments of UCLA MFA costume design students enrolled in Museum Masterworks, a class taught by Oscar-winning costume designer and Distinguished Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis.
This event celebrated Oscar Wilde, the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, and The David C. Copley Center for Costume Design with an outdoor display of original sketches and eight exquisite half-scale gowns created by the MFA costume design students for The Importance of Being Earnest, A Woman of No Importance, An Ideal Husband, and Lady Windermere’s Fan.
Presentations by Head Librarian Derek Christian Quezada Meneses; Manuscripts & Archives Librarian Rebecca Fenning Marschall; Dean Celine Parreñas Shimizu of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television; and Director of The David C. Copley Center for Costume Design Deborah Nadoolman Landis highlighted the research the students conducted at the Clark Library as part of their Museum Masterworks coursework. Items that the students had studied in the Clark Library’s renowned Oscar Wilde and His Circle collection were also on display in the North and South Book Rooms.
The MFA costume design students whose work was featured at this event include:

Sean Hannah
Molly Martin

Ivan Nguyen
Laila Simone Robinson
Shivam Sharma

The Center and Clark were delighted to be a part of this important collaboration, and we congratulate all of the MFA costume design students on their inspiring work. Many thanks to all who attended this festive event!
