How can I apply for an ATBL Research Fellowship?

Applicants should apply for a Clark Library Short-term Fellowship. On the application form, they should click Yes on the question asking if they would like to be considered for an ATBL Research Fellowship. Successful applicants for Clark Library Short-term Fellows will be contacted by ATBL to submit additional materials to apply for the ATBL Research Fellowship.

Who is eligible for apply for an ATBL Research Fellowship?

Only applicants for Clark Library Short-term Fellowships are eligible to apply for ATBL Research Fellowships.

Applicants for the Ahmanson-Getty Postdoctoral, Clark Bibliographical, Kanner, Clark Dissertation, Kenneth Karmiole Endowed Graduate Research, Pre-doctoral, Wilde-Holland, and Loren and Frances Rothschild Endowed Graduate Research Fellowships are NOT eligible.

UCLA staff, faculty, and students are NOT eligible for the ATBL Research Fellowship.

ATBL Research Fellowships are open to US citizens and Permanent Residents, 18 years or older, resident in the US or abroad.


In 2025–26, the Clark Library is partnering with the American Trust for the British Library (ATBL) to offer the opportunity for Clark Library Short-Term Fellows to apply for an American Trust for the British Library (ATBL) Research Fellowship. The ATBL Research Fellowship is an add-on short-term fellowship that supports research projects that make use of collections on site in any department in the British Library. The partnership between the Clark Library and the ATBL allows fellows to conduct research in dialogue between the Clark Library collections and those of the British Library.
